According to A2ZDIRECTORY, Indiana is a U.S. state located in the Midwestern and Great Lakes regions of North America. Indiana is the 38th largest by area and the 17th most populous of the 50 United States. Its capital and largest city is Indianapolis. Indiana was admitted to the United States as the 19th state on December 11, 1816. Indiana is known as “The Crossroads of America” due to its location at a geographic crossroads. It borders Lake Michigan to the northwest, Michigan to the north, Ohio to the east, Kentucky to the south and southeast, and Illinois to the west. Indiana has a diverse economy with a gross state product of $343 billion in 2017. Indiana has several metropolitan areas with populations greater than 100,000 and a number of smaller industrial cities and towns. The state’s name means “Land of Indians,” or simply “Indian Land.” It also stems from Indiana’s territorial history. On May 7, 1800, the United States Congress passed legislation to divide the Northwest Territory into two areas and named them after the American Revolutionary War generals—William Henry Harrison and Arthur St. Clair—thus forming Indiana Territory at that time. The weather in Indiana can vary greatly depending on the season. Summers tend to be hot and humid, with temperatures reaching into the 80s and 90s (Fahrenheit). Winters can be cold and snowy with temperatures often dropping below freezing. Spring and fall tend to be mild, with temperatures ranging from the 40s to 70s (Fahrenheit). Indiana also experiences occasional thunderstorms throughout the year. Check ITYPEUSA for more about Indiana climate information.
