Sony Makes Money Thanks To Photosensors, Playstation And Yen Course

After years of renovation, Sony seems on track to be profitable again permanently. Camera sensors and the PlayStation are the winning provider – and even the long a Electronics Division writes no more losses.

The Japanese electronics giant Sony money after a long dry spell again. In the last quarter, there was a profit of 82.4 billion yen (600 million euros)-that was three times as much as a year earlier. As the Savior prove more and more the camera sensors, which are used in many Smartphones from

A quarter fewer smartphones sold

The sales in the own Smartphone Division, however, fell by over 16 percent to 280.5 billion yen (well two billion euros). Sony explains that with the conscious exit from business with competitive devices, in which Chinese manufacturers are particularly strong. Sony sold 7.2 million smartphones–almost a quarter less than in the same quarter last year. The operating loss of the range despite positive currency effects amounted to 22.9 billion yen (166 million euros). Sony expects red numbers by 60 billion yen for the sector in the year to end March 2016.

Revenue-PlayStation

The PlayStation games business grew by over 12 percent to just 289 billion yen (2.1 billion euros) and operating profit jumped by 4.3 to 19.5 billion yen (142 million euros). Sony got rid of three million units of its latest game console PlayStation 4. For comparison: the U of rival Nintendo Wii sold almost seven times worse at this time.

Business with consumer electronics, which was Sony’s most difficult construction site for years and caused high losses, writes now in the black after painful restructuring. In the film business there was a rare loss in the full financial year this time should again come out a positive result.

Return to profitability for the full year

Group revenues fell slightly by 0.1 percent to 1.8 trillion yen in the closed end of June first fiscal quarter, as Sony announced on Thursday.
