A new open standard supported by the industry for the public lighting control
The ZigBee Alliance, a global ecosystem of companies that designs wireless solutions for energy management, commercial and consumer applications, today announced that it was developing a new open standard for control of lighting to light-emitting diode (led): ZigBee Light Link™. This forthcoming standard will help manufacturers to develop various products and control lighting, thereby providing the dealers and consumers with a wide selection of lighting products interoperable wireless for home control.
The Alliance is currently working to create a standard that will be as easy to use as a traditional dimmer. Bulbs, facilities at DEL, sensors, timers, remote controls and switches made using ZigBee Light Link will require no special devices to be integrated into the home network. Thus, consumers will be able to install, and easy to add additional devices to their network of domestic lighting. As all devices of the ZigBee range, ZigBee Light Link devices can be controlled via the Internet through computers, tablets and smart phones connected to the network. The development of this standard is guided by leading experts such as GE, Greenwave Reality, OSRAM Sylvania and Philips Lighting.
“ZigBee Light Link will be the solution number one overall in the industry for the residential market,” said Jos Bruins, Chairman of the Working Group ZigBee Light Link at Philips. “ZigBee Light Link is the subject of vigorous tests and provide consumers the simplicity they need as well as the features they wanted industry.”
Products using ZigBee Light Link can get the ZigBee certification seal. Once completed, this open standard will be one of the first standardized solutions of operation in wireless network for lighting applications that are interoperable between different manufacturers.
“To see so many key players in the lighting industry work together to take advantage of the benefits of ZigBee for ZigBee Light Link will help consumers to become aware of the usefulness of a standards-based wireless lighting control”, said Bob Heile, Chairman of the ZigBee Alliance. “ZigBee Light Link will offer consumers an easy way to control their lighting, no matter where they are, whether at home, in the office or on vacation.”
Because ZigBee Light Link will be an interoperable ZigBee standard, lighting products that use it will operate together and will co-exist with other ZigBee standards already in place in the consumer’s home.
