Nudes from over a hundred stars are exhibited on internet, undoubtedly due to flaw in iCloud service. Apple and the FBI is investigating the case.
Pointed fingers against the lack of security in iCloud and cloud-storage services, on top of yesterday’s huge leak of private nude photos of famous singers, actresses and sports stars.
Over a hundred female stars, including Rihanna, Selena Gomez, Kate Upton, Kirsten Dunst and oscar-winning Jennifer Lawrence got private nude photos stolen and exhibited at a number of online image sharing sites and foras.
In the wake of the massive breach of stellar private sphere raised questions about how the hacked might happen now-and whether users’ data is secure in the cloud.
Maybe iCloud’ens sake
An anonymous user made the images available on Sunday at image Forum 4chan. Thence spread like wildfire over the Internet’s one picture series picture and file-sharing services.
How 4chan user got their hands on the pictures is still unclear, but several sources pointing to the racy photos were stored on Apple’s iCloud service. A newly posted piece of software on the developer service Github, is believed with Thenextweb, to be what has made it possible to circumvent Apple’s security measures.
Whether iCloud otherwise encrypted content was hacked is not yet confirmed. Apple investigating right now as to whether the affected accounts were exposed to hacker attacks.
Leak from other sources
A Tweet from one of the unfortunate stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead suggests, however, that it is not only Apple’s iCloud there have been burglaries. According to Winstead is her leaked pictures have long been deleted, they should thus be dropped outside the 30 days where the images are available online.
A spokeswoman for the US federal police force confirms to the Associated Press that the FBI is aware of the allegations and their own investigation is launched.
Several security experts points out that leaked may have cause in more traditional attacks like phishing, where fake websites cheat login information, or brute-force attacks where simple passwords can be vulnerable.
